Crawlspace Encapsulation ACM Soils, Western New York

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS:

• Encapsulation of 17,000 square feet of ACM soil in crawl spaces of multiple buildings
• Removal of asbestos-contaminated soils
• Excavation and saw-cutting of foundations for the installation of trench boxes and access to work areas

SES was tasked by a Veterans Affairs Medical Center to remediate and encapsulate asbestos-contaminated soils in multiple crawlspaces, with challenging space restrictions and limited access.

To overcome these constraints and ensure uninterrupted facility operations, SES conducted remedial activities like cleaning piping systems, managing contaminated water, and segregating and removing hazardous and non-hazardous soils. Stabilization of liquids and solids occurred onsite before they were transported off-site using permitted vehicles and proper manifests.

A 15-mil polyethylene barrier was installed, followed by the pumping of a flowable fill concrete mix to encapsulate the contaminated soils in the crawlspaces. After the cleanup and removal of contaminated debris, the area was prepared for subsequent work by other trades.
