Asbestos Abatement, Utilities Separation, and Hazardous /Non-Hazardous Waste Removal, Eastern Michigan

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Abatement of 1,150 tons of friable asbestos and 3,700 tons of non-friable asbestos-containing material
  • Removal and disposal of 12+ loads of Special Waste (Universal Waste, Mercury, Contaminated RR Ties, Refrigerants, Contaminated Soils)
  • Abatement of all friable asbestos insulation from 110’ tall boiler house units

SES was hired to provide extensive environmental remediation, decommissioning, and demolition of an old coal powerhouse and stormwater treatment facility in Pontiac, Michigan.

The abatement activities included removals of friable and non-friable asbestos from the facility’s respirators and chillers. The bulk of the abatement work was located in a three-story tall boiler house unit. This abatement required strategic and specialized containment shelters alongside the exterior of the boiler house.

The remediation activities included the clean-up of the storm water treatment plant, including a 1-acre retention basin. This cleanup consisted of hazardous materials including: lead, PCBs, mercury, heavy metals, and industrial chemicals.

All waste and contaminated materials where then loaded and transported to an approved off-site facility.
