Federal Border Crossing Demolition, Western New York
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS:
- Asbestos abatement of existing plaza
- Confined space entry work
- Preparation for controlled demolition of plaza
- T&D of all contaminated ACM to DEC approved landfill
SES was retained by a general contractor to provide abatement prior to the controlled demolition of the structures at a federal border crossing for a multi-phase upgrade.
Background verification and badging were key elements of the project. Once approved, the entire crew was dedicated to the project for its entirety to minimize any COVID-19 related issues.
The project presented many site-specific challenges. It was necessary for the facilities to maintain operation during the project, therefore there was limited access to each work area. Due to the high security required at the facility, communication and logistics were critical during the execution of the work.
During Phase-I of the project, SES conducted the abatement of asbestos-impacted roof flashing materials on an inspection car port.
Under Phase-II of the project, SES conducted the abatement of a secondary canopy, border administration building, the primary inspection booths, and all associated subterranean tunnels.
All waste was containerized, profiled, and transported off the project site by licensed haulers for disposal at client-approved receiving facilities.
